Thanks to its great rigidity, the modularly-designed TS assembly and transport system from KNOLL Maschinenbau, Bad Saulgau is perfectly suited for medium-heavy to heavy bulky components and workpieces. Depending on the requirements, there are three different conveyor systems available: the TS-S accumulation roller, the TS-G belt that builds on a straight-lug chain, and the TS-Z chain hoist system.
The mechanically-simple TS-Z complements the TS-S and TS-G conveyor belts with its special advantages. Thus, this chain hoist system can not only be placed on the floor, but installed completely at floor level and it can then be driven over by fork lifts and lift trucks, etc. Thanks to its especially compact construction, only minimal intrusions into the floor structure are necessary. The minimum installation height of a belt segment is a slim 58 mm, and the minimum width is just 310 mm. An individual standard segment is 2,500 mm long; transport lines up to 50 meters in length can be built with these segments – and KNOLL has other solutions for longer lines ready on request.
The modular TS-Z includes at least one drive station, which is arranged between the chain strands. It moves the hollow pin chain; the transport carriages can be latched into the chain's 40 mm grid at the desired distance. Spring-preloaded carriers are available for this.
The transport weight may be up to 3,500 per carriage, whereby the entire system is designed for a total pull weight of 22 t. For larger loads, an additional motor is necessary. TS-Z lines can be single- or double-stranded. For two drive lines, KNOLL offers a master/slave controller in order to ensure synchronous movement.
The TS-Z system requires roll-capable carriages. These can be ordered from KNOLL, or it is also possible to use customer-specific carriages. In this case, KNOLL will develop appropriate coupler modules in order to be able to latch the carriages into and unlatch them from the chain easily. The latter is done completely automatically as soon as the carriage encounters a set stopper. Even in case of unintentional collisions, the carriage is uncoupled from the chain strand instantly, which means that the system fulfills high safety requirements.
The transport carriages can either stop in a specified assembly cycle or be moved continuously forwards across the entire length of the system. The speed is infinitely adjustable in a specified grid. Depending on the line design required, curve elements can be integrated, and even with continuous drive, intermediate stops are possible.
Thanks to the many configuration possibilities, the TS-Z can be used to realize material supply for main assembly lines. The necessary components are then picked on an accompanying carriage, which moves at the same speed or in the same cycle as the assembly belt. However the TS-Z can also be used directly for assembly work.
The power transmission and the control and safety technology all consist of standard components and are completely decentralized. Depending on the task area, the Asi-Bus, Profinet, and Asi-Safety bus systems can be used. Thus all of the electronics are easy to mount and maintain, and they can be adapted flexibly at any time to suit customers' needs.
As for the TS-S and TS-G conveyor systems, with the TS-Z the PLC controller can be incorporated into an ERP environment via a process control system. This interface between production technology and IT can be used for machine data recording, statistical evaluation of the process data or order management. If there is no ERP system available, KNOLL offers its own visualization. The process control system can be expanded to include an employee information system that provides each employee in the workplace with individually-defined, graphically-prepared information.
